Worth It

Book the earliest comfortable slot for younger children and arrive within 30 minutes. Allow extra time for food and marshmallow toasting beyond the approximate one-hour walk.

Lights of Lowther is a brand-new winter light trail at Lowther Castle & Gardens. It runs on 24 selected evenings from Saturday 14 November to Wednesday 30 December 2026.

The route begins in the illuminated Gothic ruins, continues through gardens, woodland paths and immersive installations, and ends with a new after-dark view of the castle from the lawns. Music, photo points and festive food are part of the experience.

Tickets

  • Adults: £20
  • Children aged 3-15: £15
  • Family: £65 for two adults and three children, or one adult and up to four children
  • Under-threes: free and no ticket required

Entry is pre-booked only. Annual passes do not include the event, but pass holders can create an account for a 10% ticket discount.

Entry slots and duration

Slots run every 30 minutes from 4pm, with the final entry at 8pm. Arrive within 30 minutes of the booked slot. Most visitors are expected to take around one hour, but there is no fixed trail time.

Food, dogs and access

Festive food, mulled wine, hot chocolate and marshmallow toasting are planned along the route. Dogs are welcome. Lowther says a step-free route is provided with ramps where the main route has steps, although paths can be muddy, uneven and low-lit.

Weather

The trail is outdoors. In a storm or heavy snow, Lowther may cancel. Affected ticket holders are offered an alternative date and, if none works, a full refund under the published policy.

Accessibility

Lowther advertises a step-free route with ramps where needed. The trail uses low lighting and garden paths that can be muddy or uneven; a baby carrier may be easier than a pushchair for some families.

Weather plan

Outdoor winter event. Storms or heavy snow may cause cancellation; Lowther offers another date or a refund where no alternative works.
