How this technology works

Cookies are small text records stored by your browser. UK privacy rules also cover similar technologies that store information on or read information from your device.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary to provide the requested service and protect forms, accounts, checkout and requested external-link redirects, so consent is not required. Blocking them may prevent sign-in, trip-planning or basket features from working.

Trips, saved places and consent choices

Trips and saved places require an account and are stored by Cumbria Guru on its servers. They are not saved to local storage or an offline browser cache. The essential session cookie identifies your signed-in session so the service can retrieve the correct account data.

For visitors in the UK, EEA and Switzerland, Google Privacy & messaging records advertising and analytics choices and makes them available through the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework and Google Consent Mode. Cumbria Guru no longer keeps a separate cookie-banner choice.

Optional first-party view measurement

When the Google consent signal permits analytics storage, Cumbria Guru counts visits to ordinary pages, places and editorial posts. This helps identify useful and popular content. The count is limited to once per item, browser session and day. We store the page path, content type, content ID where relevant, time, and a one-way hash derived from the session identifier. We do not store the raw session ID or IP address in the view record. This measurement remains off when analytics consent is refused.

Third-party services

Site typography is served directly by Cumbria Guru. External booking, map, ticket and affiliate websites may set their own cookies only after you choose to visit them.

Google Analytics uses Consent Mode. Before a choice is available, analytics storage is denied. Google Analytics may send consent-aware, cookieless measurements; it may set cookies such as _ga and a property-specific _ga_... cookie only when the relevant consent signal permits this.

How to control storage

Choose Privacy choices in the footer at any time to reopen Google’s consent interface and review or withdraw your choice. If that interface is temporarily unavailable, the link opens our privacy notice. You can also remove site data using your browser controls. Clearing cumbria_guru_sid will sign you out, but it will not delete trips or saved places held securely in your account.

Advertising and consent

The Google AdSense publisher tag loads so that Google Privacy & messaging can show the applicable consent interface without a preliminary site banner. Google’s CMP passes choices to AdSense using Consent Mode and, where applicable, the IAB TCF. Personalised advertising storage and processing are not enabled after a refusal. Google may serve eligible limited ads where its policies and the selected choices allow this.

Direct, affiliate and house advertising is contextual. It does not use the retired Cumbria Guru consent cookie or create a persistent visitor-level advertising identifier. When you request an affiliate redirect, time-limited one-way session, network-address and browser hashes may be used to identify duplicate or automated traffic; no additional browser storage is created for this check.
