Barrow-in-Furness

Barrow grew rapidly through industry and remains closely connected to shipbuilding and maritime engineering. The Dock Museum is the natural starting point for understanding that story, while the town’s architecture, docks and civic spaces show the confidence of its Victorian expansion.

Beyond the centre, Walney Island, coastal nature reserves and wide views over Morecambe Bay and the Duddon Estuary add a strong outdoors element. Barrow is also a useful base for Furness Abbey, Dalton-in-Furness and the southern Lake District coast.
