Wings Over Windermere 2026

Wings Over Windermere takes place at Low Wood Bay on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026. Waterbird is scheduled to fly from the lake from 6.45pm on both evenings, with a modern Aviat Husky also due to appear.

Friday BBMF flypast

An aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is scheduled to fly over Windermere between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on Friday 4 September. The announcement does not identify the aircraft, so visitors should not assume it will be a Lancaster, Spitfire or Hurricane.

The BBMF flypast is listed for Friday only. It is separate from the Waterbird flight window, which opens at 6.45pm on both Friday and Saturday.

Why arrival needs planning

The free Woodland Car Park at Low Wood Bay is advertised from 5.30pm to 9pm. As the BBMF window begins at 5.15pm, drivers relying on that car park could miss its earliest part.

For the best chance of seeing the full Friday programme, consider the 555 or 599 bus, or use lawful parking at Waterhead and walk approximately one mile or take the bus. Do not stop on the A591, block private access or assume event parking will open early.

Waterbird display

The replica Waterbird is due to take off from Windermere, fly low in a straight line at up to around 100 feet and return to the lake. It is a short historic demonstration, not an aerobatic airshow.

Official viewing area

Use the lawns at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, Ambleside Road, Windermere LA23 1LP. Food and drink will be sold in a marquee and toilets are at the Water Sports Centre.

Accessibility

The official spectator area is level and seating is available for visitors with mobility difficulties. Anyone needing a particular arrangement should contact the organiser or venue before travelling.

Dogs and spectator rules

Dogs must be kept on a short lead. Barbecues, fires, cookers, amplified music and drones are not allowed, and spectators must not enter jetties or floating pontoons.

Weather and operational warning

All flying is weather and operationally dependent. Wind direction, wind strength, visibility, lake conditions and aircraft serviceability can delay or cancel activity. Check Waterbird and official BBMF updates before setting off.
