About Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa occupies a prime lakeside position on the A591 between Windermere and Ambleside, with views across Lake Windermere towards the Langdale Pikes. The four-star resort works equally well as a relaxing base for exploring the central Lake District or as a destination stay with plenty to do without leaving the grounds. Accommodation ranges from contemporary Resort Rooms to the more exclusive Winander Club, where upgraded rooms and suites include additional comforts and access to private club spaces. Room outlooks and facilities vary, so it is worth checking the exact room category before booking. Check-in is from 3pm; standard check-out is by 11am, while Winander Club guests can check out at noon.

The award-winning Spa at Low Wood Bay combines indoor and outdoor thermal experiences, including lake-view infinity pools, hot tubs, thermal pools, saunas, steam experiences and relaxation areas. A full three-hour Thermal Journey is included only with qualifying spa-break packages and is otherwise a paid, pre-bookable extra. The thermal spa is for guests aged 16 and over. Hotel residents can use the separate indoor leisure pool and Fitness Lounge during published access times, with children allowed in the pool during the morning family session. Food and drink options include The W for seasonal British and continental dishes, Blue Smoke for cooking from its distinctive wood-fired grill, the informal Langdale Lounge, The Atrium and Norman's, plus a wood-fired afternoon tea. Restaurant tables and spa sessions should be reserved ahead, especially at weekends. The resort also has a seasonal Watersports Centre and marina, offering activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, wakesurfing, sailing, yacht charter and motor-boat hire, subject to weather and availability. Low Wood Bay hosts weddings, meetings, celebrations and events, while its position places Ambleside, Windermere, Bowness and the wider South Lakes within easy reach. Selected Resort Rooms welcome dogs, but pets are not accepted in the Winander Club, the spa or the two main restaurants; dog-friendly lounge areas are available. Direct hotel bookings include free private parking, while some third-party bookings may carry a daily parking charge. Guests with accessibility requirements should discuss room type and access arrangements with the hotel before booking.

Our local note

A strong all-in-one Lake District resort for spa breaks, special occasions and active stays on Windermere. The setting and range of facilities are the big draw, but check exactly what your rate includes because the full Thermal Journey, dining and watersports are often booked separately.

I recently stayed at the Low Wood, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish! The location is breathtaking - right on the shores of Lake Windermere with stunning views of the water and surrounding fells. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like valued guests throughout our stay. Check-in was smooth, and we were given all the information we needed about the facilities and local attractions. Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and had a luxurious feel. The bed was super comfortable, and the view from our window made waking up a real treat. The bathroom was spotless and well-equipped, with lovely toiletries provided. The spa facilities were the highlight for me. The outdoor infinity pool overlooking the lake was magical, especially at sunset! The thermal suites and relaxation areas were immaculate and incredibly relaxing. I also booked a massage, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. We dined at the Blue Smoke on the Bay restaurant, and the food was phenomenal. The steak cooked over an open fire was tender and full of flavor. Breakfast was equally impressive, with plenty of choice and high-quality ingredients. Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa offers the perfect balance of luxury and relaxation. Whether you want to explore the Lake District or simply unwind and enjoy the facilities, it’s an ideal getaway. I can’t wait to return!

Stayed at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, and wow, what a treat! The views over Lake Windermere are absolutely breathtaking, you can just sit and take it all in for hours! The room was super cozy, with a bed that felt like sleeping on a cloud. Had a little dip in the spa, and it was just perfect, so relaxing with those warm pools and a sauna that melts all your worries away. The staff were friendly and always happy to help, making the whole experience feel really special.
