Wings Over Windermere takes place on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September 2026, but Friday now starts earlier than the original spectator timetable suggested.
Friday update: BBMF flypast from 5.15pm
An aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is scheduled to fly over Windermere between 5.15pm and 5.45pm on Friday 4 September.
The aircraft type has not been announced. The flypast is scheduled, not guaranteed, and is subject to weather and operational requirements.

The BBMF flypast is currently advertised for Friday only.
When should you arrive on Friday?
If seeing the BBMF aircraft matters to you, aim to be in a legal viewing position before 5.15pm. However, there is an important catch: the free Woodland Car Park at Low Wood Bay is only advertised from 5.30pm to 9pm.
That means drivers cannot rely on the official event car park for the beginning of the flypast window. The most practical earlier-arrival options are:
- use Stagecoach 555 or 599, which stop outside Low Wood Bay;
- use lawful parking at Waterhead, then walk approximately one mile or take the bus;
- stay nearby and arrive without bringing another car into the event area.
Do not stop on the A591, block a gateway or use a private access road. Parking at Low Wood Bay is not guaranteed.
When should you arrive on Saturday?
There is no BBMF flypast currently listed for Saturday. Aim to be parked and on the lawn well before the 6.45pm Waterbird flight window. Because the display is deliberately brief, arriving at 6.45pm risks missing it.
Where is the official viewing area?
Use the lawns at Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa, Ambleside Road, Windermere LA23 1LP. The view looks across the lake towards the Langdale Pikes.
What will Waterbird do?
Waterbird will take off from the lake, fly low in a straight line at up to around 100 feet and return to the water. It is a historic flying demonstration rather than an aerobatic airshow.
The aircraft is an airworthy replica of the Waterbird that first flew from Windermere in 1911. A modern Aviat Husky seaplane is also due to appear, showing how water-based aviation developed after the pioneering aircraft.
Parking
Free event parking is advertised in the Woodland Car Park from 5.30pm to 9pm. Cars are parked at the owner's risk.
Waterbird also points visitors towards parking at Waterhead, north of Low Wood Bay, followed by a walk of around one mile or a bus from opposite the Waterhead Inn.
Bus and rail
Low Wood Bay is around four miles from Windermere railway station. Stagecoach services 555 and 599 stop outside the resort. Check the current timetable and your return journey before travelling.
Accessibility
The viewing lawn is level and seating is available for people with mobility difficulties. Toilets are at the Water Sports Centre.
Food, drink and Meet the Team
Food and drink will be sold in a marquee. After each Waterbird display, spectators can meet pilots, engineering staff, the flying display director and event organiser in the Low Wood Bay Conference Centre.
Dogs and spectator rules
Dogs are allowed but must stay on a short lead. Barbecues, fires, cookers, amplified music and drones are prohibited. Keep off jetties and floating pontoons.
Weather and cancellations
Waterbird is a delicate aircraft and cannot safely operate in some wind directions or strengths. The BBMF flypast is also operationally dependent. Check the official Waterbird flight status and current BBMF information before leaving home.
