About Langdale Chase Hotel
Langdale Chase Hotel occupies an exceptional position on the eastern shore of Lake Windermere, between Windermere and Ambleside, with uninterrupted views across the water towards the Langdale Pikes. The Victorian country house has welcomed guests since 1891 and now combines carefully restored period interiors with relaxed five-star hospitality. Bedrooms and suites are individually designed around the setting. Guests can choose lake-facing Windermere Rooms, Fellside Rooms in the Main House, Lake House rooms with private balconies or terraces, spacious suites and the remarkable Boathouse, which sits directly above the lake with its own entrance, terrace, jetty, beach access and outdoor hot tub. Family suites, selected dog-friendly rooms and an accessible feature room are also available. Room locations, outlooks and access arrangements vary, so check the exact category before booking.

The Dining Room serves seasonal modern British food inspired by the Lake District and its coastline, supported by AA Rosette recognition and panoramic lake views. Non-residents are welcome for lunch and dinner by advance reservation. The lounges and bar offer an all-day menu in a more informal setting, while the terrace is a memorable place for food or drinks in good weather. The hotel also serves a Swallows & Amazons-inspired afternoon tea and a highly regarded Sunday lunch. Dietary requirements should be discussed when booking. The hotel’s four-and-a-half-acre gardens slope down to the shoreline and retain features from a scheme created in the 1890s by landscape designer Thomas Mawson. Guests can explore the grounds, join occasional garden tours or simply use the lawns, terrace and jetty to enjoy the view. A distinctive addition is Albatros, a restored 1928 wooden motor yacht offering scheduled voyages and private charters from the hotel’s own jetty. Other pre-bookable experiences include kayaking and paddleboarding for hotel residents, guided walking, wild swimming, e-bike hire, bushcraft, off-road driving, archery, axe throwing and clay-pigeon shooting through local activity partners. A boot room helps guests plan walks and days out, while an intimate cinema room provides an excellent wet-weather option. Selected bedrooms welcome dogs and should be reserved directly with the hotel. Dog-friendly rooms can include a bed, bowls, towels and treats, and the hotel also offers dog-friendly dining spaces and a dedicated dog menu. Some rooms have direct garden access, balconies or terraces. Restrictions apply to particular rooms, dining areas and the Albatros boat, so confirm arrangements before arrival. Langdale Chase also hosts private dining, celebrations and small gatherings in a choice of rooms overlooking the lake. On-site parking and electric-vehicle charging are available. Guests with mobility requirements should speak to the hotel before booking, as this is a historic, sloping lakeside property and access differs between the Main House, Lake House, gardens and shoreline.
Our local note
One of Cumbria’s most memorable luxury stays, pairing a genuinely exceptional Windermere setting with beautifully restored interiors, strong dining and imaginative lake-based experiences. Reserve restaurants, boat trips and activities early, and choose your room carefully because the outlook and location are a major part of the experience.

A perfect anniversary stay. Immaculate room, dreamy views across the lake, and dinner was excellent. Couldn’t fault the service.
