Worth It
Best for visitors who want more than the gardens: the tour connects the woodland, watermill and estate's industrial history.
Acorn Bank's Industrial Heritage Guided Tour explores a side of the estate that is easy to miss on a normal garden visit. A volunteer guide leads visitors through the woods and working watermill, tracing the industrial history hidden in today's peaceful landscape.
2026 dates
- Friday 18 September, 12pm-1.30pm
- Saturday 19 September, 12pm-1.30pm
- Friday 9 October, 12pm-1.30pm
- Saturday 10 October, 12pm-1.30pm
Tickets
Booking is not needed. The tour itself is free, but normal admission charges apply for Acorn Bank.
Access
This is not a fully step-free tour. The National Trust says woodland paths are surfaced but have protruding tree roots in places, some gradients are too steep for wheelchairs and access to the watermill is via steep stone steps. Contact Acorn Bank before travelling if you need to confirm whether the route is suitable.
Make a day of it
The 19 September tour overlaps with the Watermill Celebrations, the Vintage Book Sale and free apple tasting, making Saturday 19 September the strongest date for a fuller Acorn Bank visit.
Accessibility
Woodland paths are surfaced but can have protruding roots. Some gradients are unsuitable for wheelchairs. Watermill access is via steep stone steps.
Weather plan
The route includes woodland and outdoor sections. Wear footwear suitable for uneven or wet ground.
