Holker Hall & Gardens
Explore a historic Cark-in-Cartmel estate with ornate hall interiors, award-winning gardens, café, deer park and seasonal events.
About Holker Hall & Gardens
Holker Hall & Gardens is a major country-house attraction on the Cartmel Peninsula, near Grange-over-Sands. The red-sandstone hall, formal gardens and extensive estate offer a contrasting experience to the high fells, with architecture, horticulture and landscape in one place.
The hall and gardens
The present hall was rebuilt after a major nineteenth-century fire and contains richly detailed interiors. Garden visitors can explore formal planting, mature trees, woodland paths and more relaxed corners of the estate.

The gardens change noticeably with the seasons, while the courtyard café and gift shop make it practical to spend several hours rather than treating Holker as a brief photo stop.
Events and seasonal access
Holker stages popular special events, including its Winter Market, which is scheduled for 6–8 November 2026. A winter programme continues into December, but event tickets and access arrangements can differ from ordinary admission.
At the November 2026 check, the operator advertised winter garden and café access Wednesday to Sunday until 22 December, with guided hall tours at specified times. Because the website includes older seasonal information as well, visitors should check the current timetable for their exact date.
Getting there and accessibility
Holker Estate is reached from the A590 via Cark-in-Cartmel. Cark-in-Cartmel railway station is approximately a fifteen-minute walk from the estate, and visitor parking is available.
There are accessible garden paths, although wheelchair access to the upper floor of the hall is restricted. The estate offers an app-based way to experience areas that are not physically accessible.
