About Friar's Crag
Friar's Crag is one of Keswick's classic viewpoints, projecting into Derwent Water on the eastern shore and looking south along the lake towards the Jaws of Borrowdale. It is a free outdoor stop and one of the easiest ways to combine Keswick town centre with dramatic Lake District scenery.
The National Trust says Friar's Crag is around ten minutes along the Lakeside Amble from the Keswick foreshore and boat landings. The route passes lakeside views, benches and woodland, making it a strong choice for visitors who want scenery without committing to a fell walk.

The Lake District National Park Authority also publishes Friar's Crag as a Miles Without Stiles route. Accessibility varies along the route and the path becomes narrower and steeper around the viewpoint itself, so visitors using wheelchairs, mobility equipment or pushchairs should check the latest official access guidance before setting out.
There is no admission fee for the viewpoint. Nearby public parking, refreshments and boat trips are separate and may be chargeable. Conditions beside the lake can change quickly, so wear suitable footwear in wet weather and keep dogs under appropriate control around livestock and wildlife.
Our local note
A must-do free Keswick viewpoint. It gives you a big Derwent Water panorama for very little effort and is easy to combine with Crow Park and the town centre.
