About Fellside
Fellside is a café and bistro in the Lake District village of Braithwaite, a few miles west of Keswick. The former Jaspers Coffee House was completely refurbished and relaunched as Fellside in spring 2026 by Jenny and Steve Brown, who also run The Royal Oak in the village. The refurbishment was substantial rather than a simple name change. The new owners installed kitchen equipment, redecorated throughout, added new furniture, a bar and lighting, and created a covered outside decking area designed to make the most of the surrounding fell views.During the day, Fellside works as a relaxed village café. The published spring 2026 offer includes hearty breakfasts, lighter and healthier lunch options, cakes and sweet treats alongside Carvetii coffee and tea.

It opens from 8am, making it potentially useful for walkers and cyclists heading towards Whinlatter, Newlands, Coledale or the western fells. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the venue also operates as an evening bistro. The launch menu focused on sharing platters and stone-baked pizzas, with Hawkstone beer and cider on tap plus cocktails. The exact menu can change, so visitors should check current dishes and any evening booking arrangements before travelling specifically for dinner. The setting is one of Fellside's strongest points. Braithwaite sits between Keswick, Whinlatter Forest and the Newlands Valley, and the village is a popular base for walks around Grisedale Pike, Coledale and Barrow. The new covered deck gives the café an outdoor option while still offering some shelter in typically changeable Lake District weather.Fellside occupies the former Jaspers premises at Beechcroft on Croft Terrace. Recent event-location information places the venue at Croft Terrace, Braithwaite, CA12 5TH. Older directory information for Jaspers varies slightly, so visitors relying on sat-nav should search for Fellside Braithwaite or Croft Terrace rather than using an old Jaspers listing. The business is linked to the same family team as The Royal Oak Braithwaite, which the Browns have operated since 2022. At the time Fellside launched, the two venues employed around 25 people between them.Published launch information states that Fellside is open seven days a week from 8am to 4pm, with additional Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening service until 10pm. The source does not publish the exact evening restart time, so Cumbria Guru does not guess one in the structured opening hours below. Check current seasonal hours, evening service and table availability before making a special journey.
Our local note
A useful Braithwaite stop that works for more than coffee: breakfast and lunch for walkers by day, then pizzas, sharing plates and drinks on selected evenings. The covered deck and fell views are a bonus; confirm the current evening timetable before travelling.
