Brewery Arts Centre
Brewery Arts is Kendal's independent arts centre, combining three cinema screens, theatre, live music, exhibitions, creative learning, food and drink.
About Brewery Arts Centre
Brewery Arts is Kendal's multi-arts venue at 122A Highgate. It combines cinema, theatre, live music, comedy, dance, exhibitions, creative learning and food and drink in one town-centre complex.
Cinema at Brewery Arts
The cinema programme mixes new releases with independent films, family screenings, documentaries, music films and specialist seasons. A third cinema screen opened in February 2025 in the former Digital Lounge. Screen 3 uses plush sofa seating and a smaller, relaxed layout, giving the venue more flexibility and allowing extra daily showings.

Check the auditorium shown against the chosen performance. Seating, access and atmosphere differ between the main screens and Screen 3, and specialist screenings may carry separate conditions.
Live events and festivals
Brewery Arts is also a major Kendal performance venue. The site includes the Main Theatre, Malt Room, Warehouse, garden and bar areas, and regularly hosts music, comedy, theatre, festivals and community events. Event layouts can be seated, standing or outdoors. Read the individual listing rather than relying on the cinema's normal opening pattern.
Food and drink
Drinks, meals, coffee and cake are available on the published service days. Current general information lists drinks from Tuesday to Saturday, dining from Tuesday to Saturday from 4pm to 8pm, and coffee and cake from noon to 4pm. Hours can extend on event nights and special festivals may use a different food offer.
Parking
The on-site car park has 50 spaces, including four accessible spaces. Brewery Arts says charges start from £3.50 for one hour. The council monitors the car park, so buy the correct ticket and display or register it as instructed.
The car park is useful but small relative to a full cinema, theatre and festival audience. For major events, allow time to use another Kendal car park and check its evening closing arrangements. The vehicle entrance is behind the Highgate frontage; follow signs rather than trying to enter through the main pedestrian doors.
Public transport
Kendal railway station is within walking distance. Oxenholme Lake District on the West Coast Main Line connects with the local Lakes Line to Kendal, Staveley and Windermere. Buses and taxis also connect Oxenholme with the town centre. Check the last service before booking a late finish.
Accessibility
Brewery Arts occupies a group of adapted buildings and access differs by room. Visitors who need step-free seating, a wheelchair space, respite seating, an essential companion arrangement or a familiarisation visit should contact the box office before booking. Four accessible parking spaces are available on site.
Our local note
Kendal's strongest all-round cultural venue. It works well for cinema, live performance and food, but the compact car park can fill quickly when several spaces are active.
