About Aldi Egremont
Aldi is building a new supermarket at East Road and Wyndham Place in Egremont, with the retailer saying the store is expected to open later in 2026.
The development is on the former East Road Esso garage site. It is a completely new Aldi rather than a relocation of an existing Egremont branch.

When will Aldi Egremont open?
There is no confirmed public opening date yet. Aldi said in June 2026 that construction was progressing well and that it was moving towards opening the store later in the year.
That position is supported by further activity around the site. A premises-licence application was published in August 2026 for Aldi Stores Ltd at Wyndham Place, and a separate planning application covers the store's illuminated fascia and totem signage.
Cumbria Guru will update this page as soon as Aldi confirms the first trading day and official opening hours.
Where is the new Aldi in Egremont?
The store is being built on land at East Road / Wyndham Place, Egremont, on the former petrol-station and dealership site. The premises-licence notice identifies the new store as Aldi Store, Wyndham Place, Egremont, CA22 2EB.
The site sits close to the centre of Egremont and should provide another full-size supermarket option for residents and people travelling through this part of West Cumbria.
What will the new store include?
Aldi's consultation material describes a £6 million investment with a net sales area of approximately 1,390m².
The approved scheme includes 86 car-parking spaces. Aldi's plans identify five accessible spaces and nine parent-and-child spaces, together with four electric-vehicle charging points and infrastructure that could allow more chargers to be installed later.
The retailer says the development could create up to 40 full-time-equivalent jobs, in addition to construction and supply-chain employment.
Will Aldi Egremont sell alcohol?
A premises-licence application published in August 2026 seeks permission for Aldi Stores Ltd to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises between 6am and midnight every day.
Those are licensing permissions, not confirmed supermarket opening hours. Cumbria Guru will not publish them as the store's trading hours unless Aldi separately confirms that schedule.
Planning and construction
The main planning application, reference 4/24/2044/0F1, covers demolition of the former buildings and construction of the new discount food store, access changes, car and cycle parking, servicing, landscaping and associated works. Cumberland Council records the application as approved on 14 March 2025.
Further applications discharged planning conditions during 2026, while advertisement application 4/26/2244/0A1 covers the proposed illuminated fascia and totem signs plus directional and vinyl signage.
Construction was visibly under way by summer 2026. Aldi told local media on 25 June that work was progressing well and that the company expected the Egremont store to open later in the year.
What are Aldi Egremont's opening hours?
They have not yet been confirmed. The hours included in planning CGIs and the alcohol-licence application should not be treated as final retail opening hours.
Once Aldi publishes the official store finder entry, first trading day and opening schedule, this guide will be updated.
Our local note
A significant new supermarket for Egremont and one that is now well beyond the proposal stage: construction is active, licensing and signage work is moving through the system, and Aldi says it expects to open later in 2026. The exact launch date and retail hours are still the missing pieces.
