A strong free addition to a Wray visit, especially for Beatrix Potter fans. Remember the castle interior is closed during the 2026 restoration.
Pages from the Potter Family Album is a free outdoor photography exhibition across the Wray grounds.
Running from 28 August 2026 to 31 March 2027, it features carefully scanned and enlarged photographs by Rupert Potter (1832-1914).
The images show family life, travel, fashion and holidays while allowing visitors to compare Victorian Lake District scenes with the landscape today.
Why Wray?
The Potter family stayed here in 1882, Beatrix Potter's first visit to the Lake District, and she met Hardwicke Rawnsley during the stay.
Cost
The exhibition is free and booking is not needed. Non-members still pay normal Wray parking charges.
Important closure
The castle building itself is closed throughout 2026 for restoration, while the grounds, café, facilities and exhibition remain open.
Accessibility
The exhibition is outdoors. Blue Badge parking, accessible toilet facilities and level access to the outside of the castle are available; wider ground surfaces vary.
