About Barrow Park

Barrow Park is the town’s principal public park and packs an unusual range of family and leisure facilities into around 45 acres close to central Barrow. It is a useful free green-space option whether visitors want a short stroll, somewhere for children to play or a relaxed break between other attractions.

Facilities listed by Westmorland and Furness Council include the boating lake, playground, skate park, bowling greens, putting, glasshouse, bandstand, miniature railway and café. Some activities are seasonal, independently operated or weather-dependent, so the park should not be treated as though every facility runs every day.

The landscaped paths and open areas make the park easy to combine with a wider Barrow day out, while the variety of activities gives it particular value for families. Visitors interested in the miniature railway, boats or organised events should check current operating information before travelling.

Fishing is not permitted in the lake. As with any large public park, individual facilities can have their own opening times and charges even though general access to the park itself is free.

Our local note

Much more than a patch of grass. For families, this is one of Barrow’s easiest low-cost stops, with play, water, gardens and seasonal activities in one place.
