Sizergh has launched a substantial autumn programme built around soil, farming, art and the hidden life beneath the estate. Visitors can combine documentary photography in Holeslack barn, an immersive art exhibition in the Great Barn and a family trail along the Holeslack accessible route.

Daughters of the Soil
Daughters of the Soil is a photography exhibition by documentary photographer Joanne Coates, shown in Holeslack barn.
The project draws on five years of research and creative work exploring women in agriculture. It brings new work from Cumbria and the Yorkshire Dales together with earlier material from Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
The National Trust says the path to Holeslack barn uses an accessible route suitable for buggies, prams, Trampers, wheelchairs and visitors with reduced mobility. There is no separate exhibition booking requirement.
SOIL at Sizergh in the Great Barn
The SOIL exhibition fills Sizergh's Great Barn with work from a collective of local and national artists inspired by the living world beneath our feet.
Named artists include Mariana Heilmann, Wim van Egmond and Elizabeth Clough. The Great Barn exhibition is free once you are admitted to Sizergh and does not need a separate booking.
Wonder World: Earth children's trail
Families can explore the same theme outdoors through Wonder World: Earth, a trail created with children's publisher Nosy Crow.
Pick up the trail map at the Visitor Centre, then follow the Holeslack accessible trail while discovering what is happening below ground. The activity is based on the children's nature book by Ben Lerwill, with illustrations by Xuan Le.
Harvest Reflections with Joanne Coates
On Saturday 3 October from 2pm to 4pm, Joanne Coates leads a free guided walk exploring the themes behind Daughters of the Soil.
Booking is essential. The National Trust asks visitors to call Sizergh Reception on 015395 69818 to reserve a free place. Normal venue admission still applies.
Start-date inconsistency on National Trust pages
There is a small inconsistency across the National Trust's live pages. Some property and individual event pages have displayed 11 September, while the current consolidated Sizergh events page lists the three autumn headline activities from 12 September.
This has no practical effect for a visit from 12 September onwards. Cumbria Guru is using the current consolidated events page for database start dates.
How much does Sizergh cost?
The autumn exhibitions and Wonder World trail do not carry a separate event charge, but normal Sizergh admission applies.

National Trust members park free but must scan their membership card. The machine is currently listed as coin-only; card payment is available through reception.
How long should you allow?
The programme works best as a half-day or full-day Sizergh visit. A practical order is Visitor Centre, Wonder World trail, Daughters of the Soil at Holeslack barn, then the Great Barn SOIL exhibition and the house or gardens if open.
