Floods in Cumbria – Real-Time Updates That Matter

During the recent flooding, communities across Cumbria once again faced the challenges of rising water levels, difficult travel conditions, and unpredictable weather patterns.

During the recent flooding, communities across Cumbria once again faced the challenges of rising water levels, difficult travel conditions, and unpredictable weather patterns.

At Cumbria Guru, we saw a significant increase in traffic to our Floods page, which provides real-time data from the Environment Agency API. This tool allows residents, businesses, and visitors to quickly check current flood alerts and river conditions across Cumbria and the Lake District.

We’re now building on this success. Our next phase will introduce:

- Historical data tracking to show how flood patterns change over time.

- Expanded coverage across all major rivers, lakes, and catchments in Cumbria.

- Improved visualisation and accessibility to help more people understand and prepare for flood events.

Our goal is simple, to create the most comprehensive, data-driven flood monitoring platform for Cumbria, supporting both public safety and environmental awareness.

We’re keen to collaborate with local councils, environmental groups, and businesses who share our vision for accessible, open data in Cumbria. Together, we can build tools that make a real difference for communities across the region.
