About The Sands Centre
The Sands Centre is one of Carlisle's largest and most varied visitor venues, combining a regional theatre and events programme with a modern leisure centre. Its riverside location is around a 10-minute walk from the city centre, making it practical for both an evening show and a daytime activity. The entertainment programme includes touring music, stand-up comedy, theatre, musicals, family productions, tribute shows, talks, community events and the annual pantomime. Shows vary from fully seated performances to standing concerts, so check the individual event page for timings, age restrictions, seating arrangements and ticket availability before booking. The leisure facilities include a 25-metre swimming pool, a teaching pool, a gym, group exercise and cycle studios, a sports hall and activities for children.

The Riverside café provides a convenient place for refreshments, although its opening hours may differ from the main centre. Tickets for performances are sold through Better Box Office, while swimming, fitness classes and other leisure activities use the Better leisure booking system. Prices and availability vary, and popular shows, classes and swimming sessions may need to be booked in advance. The building offers wheelchair access, accessible toilets, ramp and lift access, accessible changing facilities, a poolside hoist and a Changing Places facility. Customers needing access seating or essential companion tickets should review the venue's Access Membership Scheme and contact the access team before booking when additional support is required. The main Sands car park is directly outside the venue, with accessible spaces and a dedicated drop-off and pick-up area close to the entrance. An overflow car park is also available nearby. Parking charges and leisure-centre validation arrangements can change, so check the current signs and official parking information when you arrive. Carlisle railway station is approximately 0.7 miles away and the nearest central bus stops are around 0.4 miles from the venue. Event doors may open outside the leisure centre's normal public hours, so always follow the time shown on your ticket.
Our local note
Carlisle's best all-round venue for major touring shows and indoor leisure. It is especially useful for families and mixed groups, but the experience, seating and price depend heavily on the event or activity you choose.
