About The Langdale Hotel & Spa
The Langdale Hotel & Spa sits on a historic 35-acre woodland estate between Elterwater and Chapel Stile, in the heart of the Great Langdale valley. Surrounded by some of the Lake District's best-known walking, running, cycling and climbing country, it works particularly well for guests who want a comfortable resort base without losing the feeling of being deep in the fells. The four-star hotel has 52 bedrooms arranged around the village-style estate rather than in one single building. Room choices include Cosy and Roomy Lakeland Signature rooms, distinctive Ultimate rooms, the Attic Room and direct-booking Waterside Rooms with four-poster beds and balconies overlooking Great Langdale Beck. Some Roomy Signature rooms can be booked with adjoining children's rooms or a sofa bed.

Locations, layouts and walking distances to the main facilities vary, so check the precise room category and position before booking. All residential guests receive complimentary use of the estate's Fitness & Leisure facilities. These include a heated 20-metre indoor pool, a shallow children's area, spa pool, sauna, steam room, infrared Physiotherm cabin, gym, functional-training zone and outdoor tennis court. The leisure club is currently open daily from 8am until 8pm, with last admission 45 minutes before closing. Children under 15 must be supervised in the pool, and the pool and changing rooms close temporarily on Tuesday afternoons during school term for local swimming lessons. Brimstone Spa is a separate adults-only thermal experience available exclusively to guests staying at The Langdale Hotel or elsewhere on the Langdale Estate. It is not automatically included with a standard hotel room and should be added as part of a spa break or booked separately. Facilities include a nine-metre indoor-outdoor relaxation pool, seven thermal experiences, several relaxation spaces, spa therapies and the Spa Deli. Current spa opening is 10am to 8pm daily, with timed experiences and advance booking strongly recommended. Stove Restaurant & Bar is the estate's main dining venue, serving breakfast, modern Cumbrian food, wood-fired pizza, drinks and lighter options in a relaxed setting overlooking the historic waterwheel. It welcomes residents, families, walkers and non-residents, and has indoor and outdoor seating. Booking is advised for meals. Wainwrights' Inn, a traditional Lakeland pub in Chapel Stile, is a pleasant walk from the estate and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The Langdale valley is the biggest attraction beyond the facilities. Walking and running routes start close to the estate, while paddleboarding, cycling, e-bike hire and other activities can be arranged through local partners. Families also have access to an outdoor adventure playground and a secure indoor soft-play area. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 10.30am. The hotel and wider estate are cashless. Pets are not allowed in the hotel or on the estate, with the exception of recognised assistance dogs, so this is not suitable for a standard dog-friendly break. The estate has a 24-hour reception, on-site parking, electric-vehicle charging, accessible public toilets, a portable induction loop and one designated fully accessible hotel bedroom with a wet room. Much of the estate is spread across undulating woodland, and facilities are located in separate buildings, so guests with mobility requirements should discuss room position and access before booking. Windermere is the nearest railway station and the hotel describes the onward taxi journey as approximately 15 minutes.
Our local note
A superb base for Great Langdale, particularly for walkers, couples and families who will use the pool and estate facilities. The key booking decision is whether you want the complimentary leisure club or the separate paid Brimstone Spa experience. Choose your room location carefully and reserve spa and restaurant slots early.
