About Harrington Marina
Harrington Marina occupies a historic harbour on the Cumbrian coast between Workington and Whitehaven. Although modest in scale, it is an interesting stop for coastal scenery, local maritime history and events such as Harrington Marina Day.
A harbour shaped by industry
Harrington has provided shelter for vessels for centuries. A quay was built for Henry Curwen in 1760, after which coal and limestone exports helped the harbour and local shipbuilding trade grow. The harbour was substantially developed during the industrial era before manufacturing decline reduced commercial use.

At one stage the harbour was sealed and used as a reservoir for a nearby magnesium works. It was later reopened to sea-going vessels, giving today's marina its connection with Harrington's industrial and maritime past.
Visiting the marina
The waterfront can be enjoyed as part of a short stop, a local walk or a longer exploration of the Cumbrian coast. It is not a large commercial visitor attraction with fixed admission hours, so treat it as a working waterfront and respect any barriers, private berths and operational areas.
Getting there without a car
Harrington railway station is only a short walk from the marina. The number 52 Stagecoach service also serves Harrington, making the waterfront unusually practical to reach without driving.
Driving
From the A597, turn towards Church Road and Harrington Marina and continue beneath the railway bridge. Parking and access arrangements can change during events, so follow local signs rather than assuming normal roadside access.
Safety
This is open water on the coast. Keep children closely supervised, stay clear of working areas and take extra care in strong wind, poor weather and low light.
Our local note
Worth adding to a coastal day around Workington and Harrington rather than travelling a long distance for the marina alone. Its strongest appeal is the combination of harbour history, coastal atmosphere, easy rail access and occasional community events.
