Dalton Castle is a 14th-century tower in the centre of Dalton-in-Furness and was once the manorial courthouse of Furness Abbey.
The abbot used the building to hold courts and administer justice across the lordship of Furness.

Opening
This is not a daily attraction. The Friends of Dalton Castle support selected public openings and guided visits, so check the date before travelling.
Accessibility
There are three stone steps at the entrance and 18 steps to the first floor. Corridors and doorways are narrow, with limited turning space.
Visit with Furness Abbey
The two sites tell the same story from different angles: Furness Abbey was the monastic power centre, while Dalton Castle was where its local court authority was exercised.
Worth It
Small but historically important. Dalton Castle is best treated as a special opening rather than a guaranteed drop-in attraction, and it is much more rewarding when combined with Furness Abbey.
