Furness Abbey Medieval Fair runs from 10am to 5pm on Saturday 5 September 2026, with last entry at 4.30pm.
Free entry for local residents
If you live in LA13, LA14, LA15 or LA16, bring proof of address and you can enter the abbey free for the fair. English Heritage members also enter free.
Everyone else pays normal abbey admission. Furness Abbey Fellowship asks adults for a voluntary £2.50 donation.
What to expect
Living history, crafts, family activity and food sit among the red-sandstone ruins, which makes the setting part of the event rather than just a backdrop.
Parking
Normal Furness Abbey parking is only around 20-30 cars by the Visitor Centre plus extra parking at Abbey Mill Café. Follow event signs rather than assuming the normal layout will apply.
Public transport
Stagecoach 6 and X6 stop within about three-quarters of a mile.
Best add-on
Dalton Castle opens 2pm-5pm on the same day. It was once the courthouse of the abbots of Furness, so the two attractions tell one connected story.
Our tip
If you qualify for free local entry, remember your proof of address. It is the easiest way to avoid an unnecessary admission charge.
