Askam-in-Furness is a coastal village on the Duddon Estuary, offering a long sandy beach, big Lakeland views, birdlife and traces of its iron-making past.
The beach and estuary are Askam’s greatest assets. From the shore, views open towards the western fells and across a landscape shaped by tides, dunes and industry. The unusual pier and old industrial remains reflect the village’s former ironworks and mining connections.
It is a good choice for quiet coastal walks, photography and birdwatching, particularly when combined with nearby Dalton-in-Furness, Barrow or the Duddon Valley. The setting feels spacious and uncrowded, with sunsets often providing the day’s highlight.
