A full-scale replica of the Nao Santa María is coming to Barrow-in-Furness for the first time, opening to visitors at Barrow Town Quay from Thursday 27 to Monday 31 August 2026.
The ship will be open daily from 10am to 8pm. Visitors can go aboard, explore its decks and interior and learn about life on a 15th-century ocean-going vessel.

What is the Nao Santa María?
The Nao Santa María is a working replica of the vessel associated with Christopher Columbus's 1492 Atlantic voyage. It travels between ports as a floating museum, allowing visitors to experience the scale, layout and working environment of a late-15th-century ship.

The public visit is self-guided. You can explore the ship's decks and interior spaces, with interpretation about navigation, crew life and ocean-going exploration.
Tickets
Online tickets are cheaper than walk-up tickets. Online ticket holders have priority, and if the online allocation sells out there may be no on-site tickets available. Booking ahead is therefore the safest option if the ship is the main reason for your visit.
Where is the ship?
The Nao Santa María will berth at Barrow Town Quay in the historic dock area. Allow extra time for parking and walking to the quay and follow any temporary event signs.
Getting there

Accessibility
This is a historic-style sailing vessel rather than a modern purpose-built attraction. Boarding involves gangways, changes of level and confined shipboard spaces. If step-free access is essential, check directly with the operator before booking.
