Maryport's trawler race returns on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August 2026 as part of the Maryport Rescue Fun Weekend, bringing two days of activity to the harbour and Marine Road.
When is the Maryport Trawler Race?
The weekend runs from 10am to 7pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The trawler race itself is scheduled for 12.30pm on Saturday 29 August, followed by presentations at 4pm.
Saturday programme
Saturday combines the race with the event's dog show. Dog-show registration opens at 10am and judging starts at 1pm. Visitors can also explore food and craft stalls, children's activities, live entertainment and emergency-service displays throughout the day.
Sunday programme
Maryport Rescue plans an on-water lifeboat display between 1pm and 2pm on Sunday 30 August. Other family activities and displays continue around the harbour during the day.
Is it free?
General admission is free. Optional donations support Maryport Rescue. Some individual attractions can make a separate charge: for example, visitors are expected to be able to sit in the visiting Spitfire display aircraft for a small fee.
Where should I park?
Irish Street Car Park is close to the event area on Marine Road and has 116 spaces. It is a useful central choice for the harbour and town centre, but a major event can fill it much earlier than on a normal weekend. Arrive early, check the signs when you park and follow any temporary traffic arrangements.
Can I come by train?
Yes. Maryport railway station is within walking distance of the town centre and harbour. Rail can be a sensible option when central roads and parking are busy.
What should I do while I am in Maryport?
The event is a good excuse to make a day of the town. Explore the harbour and waterfront, then continue towards Maryport Maritime Museum and Shipping Brow Gallery. Senhouse Roman Museum provides a completely different look at Maryport's history, while The Carlton on Senhouse Street is one of the town's major new cultural developments.
Harbour safety
Remember that Maryport is a real working harbour rather than a closed festival field. Keep children close near the water, stay behind barriers and follow instructions from organisers, rescue crews and harbour staff.
Will the race run in bad weather?
Marine activity is always subject to safety conditions. Wind, sea state and other operational factors can alter the race or rescue-display programme, so check current organiser updates before setting off if the weather looks difficult.
