Worth It

Best combined with the Furness Abbey Medieval Fair earlier the same day for a strong Furness heritage itinerary.

Dalton Castle opens from 2pm to 5pm on Saturday 5 September 2026.

The tower is normally closed outside selected volunteer openings, so this is a useful chance to see inside rather than simply viewing it from Market Place.

What is it?

Dalton Castle was the manorial courthouse of Furness Abbey, where the abbots exercised judicial authority over the surrounding lordship.

Accessibility

There are three stone steps at the entrance and 18 steps to the first floor, with narrow doorways and limited turning space.

Combine with Furness Abbey

The Furness Abbey Medieval Fair runs 10am-5pm the same day. Visit the abbey in the morning and Dalton Castle from 2pm.

Accessibility

Three stone steps at entrance and 18 steps to first floor, with narrow doorways and limited turning space.

Weather plan

Indoor visit, but travel and town-centre walking are weather exposed.
