Memorial Gardens Cockermouth
Small riverside gardens near the centre of Cockermouth, offering a peaceful short walk and views towards the castle and historic townscape.
About Memorial Gardens Cockermouth
Cockermouth's Memorial Gardens sit close to the town centre and provide a calm green link between the streets and the river. They are best treated as part of a wider walk rather than a destination requiring hours: pause by the planting and memorial features, then continue along the nearby riverside routes.
The gardens are also useful for appreciating Cockermouth's setting. From this part of town there are attractive views towards the castle and older buildings, helping make sense of how the settlement developed around the meeting of the Cocker and Derwent.
There is no admission charge. As with any public garden, paths can be wet after poor weather and temporary maintenance or event arrangements may affect access.
Our local note
A peaceful little pause in a busy sightseeing day, especially worthwhile when linked with the riverside and castle viewpoints.
