About Lancrigg

Lancrigg occupies a remarkable 31-acre setting at the edge of Grasmere beneath Helm Crag. The Grade II-listed country house has roots reaching back to the seventeenth century and is associated with a long line of writers, thinkers and explorers, including figures connected with William Wordsworth, Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin.

Today Lancrigg operates primarily as an exclusive-use wedding and events venue, with a wedding barn, historic house, extensive grounds and 17 en-suite bedrooms accommodating groups. It also hosts retreats, celebrations and private stays, so it should not be treated like a conventional drop-in hotel with public facilities available every day.

The estate connects directly with the walking country around Easedale and Helm Crag, but the grounds are private and may be in exclusive use. Anyone wishing to visit Lancrigg itself, tour the venue or stay overnight should arrange this with the team in advance rather than assuming general public access.

Our local note

One of Grasmere’s most atmospheric historic estates, now best understood as a private wedding, retreat and group-stay venue rather than a standard hotel.
