Kendal Museum
One of Britain's oldest museums, with natural-history, archaeology, geology, local-history and world-wildlife collections near Kendal railway station.
Kendal Museum on Station Road traces its origins to 1796, making it one of the country's oldest museums. Its collections explore local archaeology and history, geology, natural history and wildlife from Cumbria and further afield. The museum is managed by Kendal College and is particularly useful as an indoor, family-friendly addition to a town visit. Its published opening pattern is currently temporary and can change, so do not rely on an old weekly timetable. Check the official website or telephone before travelling, and ask directly about access, current galleries, family activities and admission.
Our local note
A substantial but often overlooked Kendal attraction, particularly good for natural history and local collections. Check the temporary opening pattern first.
