Grange-over-Sands Promenade
Stroll along Grange-over-Sands Promenade for Morecambe Bay views, accessible level walking, birdwatching, cafés and children’s play areas.
About Grange-over-Sands Promenade
A classic promenade with Morecambe Bay views
Grange-over-Sands is famous for its elegant coastal promenade, a relatively level walkway looking out across the changing marshes and tidal sands of Morecambe Bay. Sheltered planting, gardens and benches give it a gentler character than many more exposed seaside locations. It is an easy addition to a day in Grange, especially if you are arriving by train or seeking a relaxing walk without climbing a fell.
Facilities along the promenade
The promenade connects play spaces, casual seating, exercise equipment and recreational facilities. The town council identifies cafés along the route, with a skate park, tennis courts and multi-use games area towards its southern end. Availability differs from facility to facility; some recreation features, including crazy golf and putting, have been temporarily closed according to the council. Do not promise that every activity is currently operating.

Getting onto the promenade
Several pedestrian access points link the promenade with town streets, including the underpass at Grange railway station, the Main Street car park underpass and footbridge access at Clare House Lane. Nearby public car parks may charge. Some paths are level, making the location popular with pushchairs and many wheelchair users, although individual ramps, bridges and surface conditions should be checked for specific access needs.
Essential Morecambe Bay safety
The sea and sands are beautiful but potentially extremely dangerous. The town council explicitly warns visitors not to attempt to cross Morecambe Bay sands alone; channels, mud and fast incoming tides pose serious hazards. Enjoy the scenery from the promenade and use a properly authorised specialist guide for any organised cross-bay walk. For a longer visit, explore Grange’s ornamental gardens, cafés and historic streets.

Our local note
An easy coastal outing for a wide range of visitors, with gentle level walking and bay views. Never step out onto the dangerous tidal sands.
