About Gibby's

Gibby's is one of Carlisle's newest independent food-and-drink openings, bringing a wine-bar and sharing-plate concept to 48 Warwick Road in the city centre. The venue opened in August 2026 in the former House of Malt shop. Rather than operating as a traditional pub or full restaurant, Gibby's focuses on artisan charcuterie, cheeses, seasonal sharing plates, wine and smaller bites, making it a useful option for a relaxed drink, grazing-style meal or an early-evening stop before heading elsewhere in the city. The location is particularly convenient. Warwick Road runs straight into Carlisle city centre and the venue is only a short walk from the railway station, The Halston, Devonshire Street and the main shopping streets.

Yellowjacket is next door at number 46, adding to a growing cluster of independent bars and hospitality businesses on this part of Warwick Road.Cumberland Council's current licensing register confirms Gibby's at 48 Warwick Road. Premises licence PL599 is held by MM & Son (Carlisle) Limited, with Matthew James Rayson named as designated premises supervisor. The licence permits alcohol for consumption both on and off the premises between 9am and 11pm daily. Those licensing times are maximum legal permissions rather than the venue's normal customer opening hours. The currently published September 2026 trading pattern is much narrower: Gibby's is closed Monday to Wednesday, opens from 4pm on Thursday and Friday, from noon on Saturday and from noon on Sunday, with Sunday finishing earlier at 9pm. Because this is a new business, hours may still evolve, so check the latest social update before making a special journey. The food offer centres on sharing rather than conventional starter-main-dessert dining. Current descriptions emphasise artisan cured meats, cheese, seasonal sharing plates and nibbles alongside a carefully selected wine list. That makes Gibby's particularly suited to couples, small groups and visitors looking for a more informal evening than a standard restaurant booking. The unit previously housed House of Malt, an independent whisky and spirits retailer. The premises licence was transferred to the new operator in June 2026 and the council register now formally records the name Gibby's, providing clear confirmation that this is a permanent new venue rather than a pop-up.There is no confirmed public telephone number or standalone website available at the time of this update. Menus, dietary information, accessibility details and whether tables can be reserved should therefore be checked through the venue's current social channels before travelling if any of those points are essential.

Our local note

A strong addition to Carlisle's independent food-and-drink scene: more wine bar than pub, with cheese, charcuterie and sharing plates in a very handy Warwick Road location. Best for an unhurried drink and grazing-style meal; check the latest opening hours before travelling.
