Cockermouth History Wall
Public artwork in Kings Arms Lane telling Cockermouth's story through a long illustrated timeline of people, places and events.
About Cockermouth History Wall
The Cockermouth History Wall is an easy-to-miss attraction that rewards anyone exploring the town on foot. Set in Kings Arms Lane just off Main Street, the wall presents episodes from Cockermouth's long history in an accessible visual form, touching on the people, industries, floods and events that have shaped the town.
It is outdoors and free to see, so there is no need to plan around admission times. The wall also fits naturally into a self-guided wander through the Georgian centre, with Wordsworth House, Market Place, the River Cocker and several historic lanes all within a short walk.
Allow time to read rather than simply passing through. It works particularly well as part of Cockermouth's wider town trail, where plaques and surviving buildings help connect the historical stories to the streets around you.
Our local note
A free, central and surprisingly informative stop that adds context to a walk around Cockermouth's historic streets.
