Brant Fell
A short but steep fell walk rising directly above Bowness-on-Windermere, rewarded with broad views over Windermere and the surrounding fells.
About Brant Fell
Brant Fell is one of the most rewarding short walks from Bowness-on-Windermere. The fell rises immediately behind the town, so you can leave the busy lakeshore and be climbing into open countryside within minutes. From the higher ground there are wide views over Windermere, the islands and the mountains beyond, making it a useful choice when you want a genuine Lake District viewpoint without committing to a full-day mountain route.
The climb is relatively short but it is steep in places, with uneven and potentially muddy ground. Walking footwear is sensible, especially after rain. Conditions can change quickly and the summit area is exposed, so take a waterproof layer and turn back if visibility or footing deteriorates. The walk works particularly well early or later in the day when the centre of Bowness is busiest.
Our local note
One of the best short walks from central Bowness: steep enough to feel like a proper fell outing, but compact enough to fit around a day by the lake.
