About Blackwell, the Arts & Crafts house
Blackwell is a Grade I-listed Arts & Crafts house above Windermere, designed by Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott and completed in 1901. Original plasterwork, stained glass, woodwork, furniture and carefully composed rooms make the house one of the Lake District's strongest architecture-and-design visits.

From 18 September 2026 to 20 March 2027, Blackwell marks its 125th anniversary with a major exhibition devoted to its architect. Furniture, textiles and interior designs from Blackwell's collection are shown alongside national, regional and private loans.

Highlights include the recently acquired Daffodil Dresser and a decorative copper-and-iron fire surround loaned by the Manx Museum Service. A new edition of Baillie Scott: The Artistic House accompanies the exhibition.
Exhibition entry is included with normal house admission. Free on-site parking is available. Check Lakeland Arts for seasonal opening before travelling.
