Worth It
Rare access with real archaeological context, not a casual open field. Book first, wear proper footwear and arrive only for your allocated walk.
Low Borrowbridge Roman Fort and Farm opens for three guided Heritage Open Days walks in September 2026. The site is on a working farm and is not normally open for casual public visits.
Walk dates and times
- Saturday 12 September at 11am
- Saturday 12 September at 1pm
- Saturday 19 September at 11am
Each walk lasts approximately two hours and is limited to 30 people. Advance booking is compulsory. The published Heritage Open Days listing says booking closes on 11 September.
What the walk covers
Andrea Meanwell leads the walk through the development of the farm, the Roman fort, the arrival of the railway and motorway in the Lune Gorge, and current environmental schemes. The listing also confirms that the walk leader is a qualified archaeologist.
Books and farm produce will be available to buy.
Access and safety
Expect uneven ground and wear stout footwear. Dogs are not permitted. Because this is a working farm, visitors must remain supervised and must not arrive outside their booked guided-walk time.
Directions
The address is Low Borrowbridge Farm, Tebay, Penrith, Cumbria CA10 3XX. The organiser's direction is that the farm is the first farm on the right after passing under the motorway. Follow booking confirmation and event signage rather than entering neighbouring farm tracks.
Accessibility
Uneven ground. Stout footwear is required. No dogs. Visitors must remain supervised because this is a working farm.
Weather plan
The two-hour walk is outdoors on uneven farm ground. Dress for the forecast and bring waterproofs.
