Worth It

A genuine exact-date 150th anniversary rather than a generic heritage theme day. Book the reserved train before making a special journey.

A Grand Victorian Day Out takes place at Ravenglass Railway Museum on Saturday 22 August 2026, exactly 150 years after the first passenger journeys on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. Victorian-themed museum activities begin from 10am. A reserved anniversary event train departs Ravenglass at 1.10pm, with Whitehaven Brass Band serenading the departure. Event-train tickets are sold on a donation basis and proceeds support Ravenglass Railway Museum. The Great Victoria Sponge-off also takes place at The Ratty Arms, with cake judging at 3.30pm; pre-registration for cake entries closed on 17 August. Check live capacity before travelling specifically for the reserved train.

Accessibility

Contact the museum before booking if a particular wheelchair space or access arrangement is essential. Railway accessible-carriage capacity should be reserved in advance.

Weather plan

Main museum activity is indoors, but travel and station activity can be affected by severe weather.
