Worth It
One of Cumbria's most distinctive dark-skies experiences, combining a proper evening paddle with time to take in the night sky.
See Coniston Water change completely as daylight fades on this guided three-hour canoeing experience.
You meet at Brown Howe Car Park on the west shore, learn the basics while there is still light and then head onto the lake. The group stops in a quieter bay for a hot drink and time to look for stars and constellations before paddling back after dark.
Clear skies can bring views of the Milky Way, but that is never guaranteed. On cloudier nights guides use stargazing apps and astronomy knowledge so the evening is not entirely dependent on perfect weather.
Who can go?
Minimum age 12. Adults aged 14+ are £57 and child tickets £52.
Getting there
Meet at Brown Howe Car Park on the A5084, south of Torver. The organiser warns that the postcode can route drivers to the wrong side of Coniston Water, so follow the A5084 directions and look for the signed Brown Howe car park. There is no public transport stop at the meeting point.
Weather plan
The experience can still work on less starry nights, but water and weather conditions remain subject to organiser judgement.
