Your guide to Bowness-on-Solway

Bowness-on-Solway is a peaceful village on the Solway Firth, known as the western end of Hadrian’s Wall Path and for expansive tidal views, wildlife and sunsets.

Traditional cottages and farms sit close to the shoreline at this historic edge of the Roman frontier. Although little of the wall is visible here, the village has symbolic importance for long-distance walkers completing or beginning the Hadrian’s Wall Path.

The Solway landscape brings a different kind of drama: saltmarsh, birds, changing light and distant Scottish hills. It is ideal for walking, nature watching and a quiet coastal pause after the busier heritage sites around Carlisle and Brampton.
