BLOCKS of Cockermouth, situated in the Allerdale Court Hotel, has been on our wish list for quite some time! Pitched as a Steakhouse, it seemed totally our type of place.

After putting it to locals in February 2018, it was decided that the restaurant space at the hotel would become a Steakhouse (99% of those asked put this idea forward). This automatically gives us great vibes about BLOCKS as the owners are clearly extremely interested in what their customers want!

They’re also invested in the local community- all produce is locally sourced and they use the finest steaks from Cumbrian farmers. Bonus!

The first thing that struck us was the relaxed atmosphere and decor. The staff were instantly attentive and extremely friendly. This was a continuous theme throughout our visit!

We ordered starters- Sticky Cumberland Sausages and Carpaccio. I couldn’t fault the Carpaccio- it was perfectly prepared and tasty. The Cumberland Sausages were tasty, but not as sticky as the menu implied. Still enjoyable though!

Being at a steak house, we both opted for the 8oz Fillet Steak. At £23.95 it was possibly more than we’d spend on a typical meal out, but for top quality steak we felt that it was very reasonably priced! What we loved about Blocks is that you can pick your sides and sauce at no additional cost. It meant that I could get my salad and Halloumi and Mr Guru got his chips and mac ‘n’ cheese! Perfect! The food was, as you’d expect, perfectly cooked. My medium-rare steak was exactly how I like it.

As it was a special meal, we pushed the boat out and got deserts- for me it was a coffee (trying to keep the diet under control, you know) and Mr G got the BLOCKS Chocolate Brownie, which by all accounts was amazing!

If you’re looking for somewhere to go for a special occasion, then BLOCKS is highly recommend by us here at Cumbria.Guru! The use of local produce really ups the appeal of this relaxed Steakhouse.
