Museum of the Moon is at Carlisle Cathedral from 1 October to 1 November 2026.
What is it?
Luke Jerram's touring artwork is a seven-metre internally lit Moon made using detailed NASA lunar imagery. Carlisle is an unusually fitting setting because it sits beneath the Cathedral's starry ceiling.
When can I visit?
Normal public viewing is 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, last entry 4.30pm, and noon-2pm on Sundays around worship. Check the Cathedral calendar because services and event preparation can affect access.
Do I need tickets?
Not for ordinary daytime viewing. A voluntary donation is invited, suggested at £5 per adult or £12 per family. Special evening events and Moon View Tours are separately ticketed.
Moon Lates
Moon Lates are advertised on 2, 3, 9, 22, 28 and 29 October and 1 November. Entry is £7.50, or £15 with the Moon View Tour. The tour climbs narrow sandstone staircases to high interior levels and is for ages 14+.
Parking and transport
Use Carlisle city-centre parking and walk to the Cathedral. Carlisle railway station and bus interchange are also within walking distance.
Make a day of it
Carlisle Castle and Tullie are easy additions, while the Cathedral Café and city-centre restaurants work well before an evening event.
Check before travelling
Dates and normal opening patterns are confirmed, but Cathedral activity can alter access on individual days.
