Una Healy will headline Carlisle's Christmas lights switch-on on Sunday 15 November 2026. Cumberland Council has now named the singer, best known as a member of The Saturdays, as the star of the free city-centre event. Britain's Got Talent 2025 winner Harry Moulding will host the afternoon.
The celebrations run outside Carlisle's Old Town Hall from 3pm to 5.30pm, with the big switch-on scheduled for 5pm. If you were planning a Sunday shopping trip or a meal in the city, there is now a definite time to work around.
Who is performing?
Una Healy is the headline act, bringing the pop hits associated with The Saturdays to Carlisle. The afternoon will be presented by magician Harry Moulding, who won Britain's Got Talent in 2025.
Local performers are an important part of the programme too. Cumberland Council has confirmed appearances from Kingmoor Nursery and Infant School Choir, Blackford and Rockcliffe Primary Schools, Kirkbride Primary School, StagedRight Productions, Express Dance Studios and violinist Gill Wadeson.
When will Carlisle's Christmas lights be switched on?
- Sunday 15 November 2026, outside the Old Town Hall.
- 3pm: community entertainment begins.
- 5pm: official Christmas lights switch-on.
- 5.30pm: scheduled end of the event.
- Admission: free; suitable for families.
The precise order and timing of individual performances may change, so arrive early if you especially want to catch the headline act. The event is outdoors and likely to attract a substantial crowd. Wrap up for November weather and leave enough time to get into the city centre.
Make an afternoon of Carlisle
There is no need to treat the switch-on as a five-minute visit. You could combine it with a wander through the historic centre and a stop for food or a hot drink, then gather near the Old Town Hall for the performances. If you are travelling with children, agree a meeting point before the crowd gets busy.
