About The Highfield

The Highfield is an intimate 18-bedroom boutique hotel on The Heads in Keswick, a particularly convenient position between the town centre, Hope Park and Derwentwater. The property sits above the park with views towards the lake, Borrowdale and the surrounding fells, while Keswick's shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions are only a short walk away. The hotel entered a new chapter in 2026. Colliers confirmed in February that The Highfield had been acquired by a local investor after being marketed at an asking price of GBP 1.795 million. The new owner immediately closed the property for a significant refurbishment and reconfiguration intended to take the hotel to a higher level. The refurbished hotel is now trading again, with a new official website and live direct-booking system. The renewed Highfield is presented as a boutique stay rather than a large resort hotel.

Its current identity combines the character of the period building with refreshed interiors and a small-room-count atmosphere. The official hotel description highlights period interiors, fell views and Derwentwater on the doorstep. There are 18 bedrooms in total. Current room marketing includes king rooms and a Superior King Suite, with the suite offering a separate sitting area and some of the hotel's strongest views across Keswick towards the surrounding landscape. Individual room layouts, outlooks and facilities vary, so guests who want a particular lake or fell view should check the exact room description before booking rather than assuming every room has the same outlook. A major practical advantage in central Keswick is the hotel's complimentary on-site parking for staying guests. The official website promotes 18 on-site parking spaces. As spaces, vehicle size and arrival arrangements can still matter at busy times, guests should follow their pre-arrival information and avoid assuming the car park can be used before check-in or after departure without agreement. The Highfield's location works particularly well for a car-light stay. Hope Park is immediately below The Heads, Theatre by the Lake and the Derwentwater boat landings are within easy walking distance, and Keswick Market Square is only a few minutes away. Walkers can also connect into routes around Derwentwater and towards the surrounding fells without needing to drive every day. The hotel's new direct-booking portal is live and should be used for current room availability, prices, stay conditions and any breakfast inclusions. Room rates vary significantly by date and room category, particularly at weekends, during school holidays and around major Keswick events. The current official contact number is 017687 20005 and the hotel publishes info@thehighfieldkeswick.co.uk for enquiries. Guests travelling with children, dogs, accessibility requirements or other essential needs should confirm the current policy directly before booking because the hotel has undergone a substantial 2026 reconfiguration and older third-party listings may still contain information from the previous operation. The nearest mainline railway station is Penrith North Lakes. From Penrith, Keswick can be reached by bus or taxi. Once in Keswick, The Highfield's central location makes most town attractions accessible on foot.

Our local note

A very strong Keswick base if you want a small boutique hotel, scenery and central access without sacrificing on-site parking. The 2026 refurbishment makes older reviews and directory details less useful, so check the new room descriptions and direct-booking terms.
