Stock Ghyll Force

Stock Ghyll Force is one of the easiest natural attractions to reach on foot from Ambleside town centre. Stock Ghyll drops around 70 feet through wooded ravine scenery, with a waymarked route climbing beside the beck to footbridges and viewpoints around the main falls. It is a compact Lake District outing that works especially well when you want a rewarding walk without committing to a full day on the fells.

The path is uneven, steep in places and can become muddy or slippery after rain, so walking footwear is a better choice than town shoes. The waterfall is usually at its most impressive after wet weather. There is no need to drive to the falls: start from Stockghyll Lane and walk up from the centre of Ambleside, keeping to the signed route and taking care near wet rocks and fast water.
