Old Courthouse Gallery
Three floors of contemporary art, craft and design in central Ambleside, showcasing work by more than 100 artists and makers.
About Old Courthouse Gallery
Old Courthouse Gallery has been part of Ambleside’s independent cultural scene since 1994. Set over three floors in Market Place, the gallery brings together original wall art with sculpture, glass, woodwork, jewellery and other contemporary craft, with work from more than 100 artists and makers represented across the collections.
It works equally well as a serious gallery visit or as one of Ambleside’s more distinctive shopping stops, particularly for visitors looking for original work rather than generic souvenirs. Because the stock is artist-led and changes regularly, repeat visits can feel very different. The gallery’s central location makes it easy to combine with Bridge House, restaurants and the rest of Ambleside’s independent shops.
Our local note
A strong independent stop for original art and craft, with far more depth than a typical gift shop and enough variety to reward a proper browse.
