The full story

About The Beehive

The Beehive is a large Greene King pub on Warwick Road in Carlisle, close to Brunton Park and the city's eastern approaches. It is well known as a sports pub, family-friendly local and pre-match meeting place, with food, drinks, a beer garden and multiple screens for live sport. The pub is temporarily closed for a major refurbishment. Greene King closed The Beehive from 24 August 2026 and currently marks the venue as closed for investment. The project is described as a six-figure refurbishment, with reopening expected during September 2026. An exact reopening date has not yet been published. The investment covers both the interior and outside areas.

Inside, visitors can expect refreshed décor, new furniture and upgraded lighting intended to give the pub a more modern feel while retaining its role as a casual neighbourhood and sports venue. One of the headline additions is interactive digital darts. The refurbishment will add digital dart boards aimed at groups and sports fans, expanding the activity offer beyond simply watching matches on television.A new raised function area is also being created and will be available for private bookings. This should make The Beehive more useful for birthdays, group gatherings, celebrations and organised events once the pub reopens. The beer garden is also being upgraded with new furniture and lighting, together with a new outdoor sports screen. That is particularly relevant for major football, rugby, cricket, darts and other televised sporting events when indoor tables can fill quickly. Before the refurbishment, Greene King listed facilities including Sky Sports, TNT Sports, a car park, beer garden, dog-friendly and family-friendly areas, disabled facilities, Wi-Fi, pool, darts and function bookings. Final facilities should be rechecked after reopening in case the investment changes any arrangements. The Warwick Road location puts The Beehive close to Carlisle United's Brunton Park and other sporting facilities. That makes it especially useful on matchdays, although entry policies can differ for major fixtures and visitors should check current matchday restrictions before travelling.Food and drink are normally an important part of the offer, with Greene King pub classics, smaller plates and changing food and drink promotions. The kitchen and serving hours will need to be confirmed again after the September reopening rather than relying on the pre-refurbishment timetable. For now, do not travel expecting the pub to be open. Cumbria Guru will update this page as soon as Greene King publishes the confirmed reopening date and new post-refurbishment opening and food-service hours.

The Cumbria Guru verdict

Our local note

A substantial refresh of one of Carlisle's better-known sports pubs. The outdoor sports screen, interactive darts and new function area should make The Beehive much stronger for matchdays and groups, but it remains closed until its September 2026 reopening.
