About Lakeside Hotel & Spa
Lakeside Hotel & Spa occupies one of the most distinctive hotel locations in the southern Lake District, directly on the shore of Lake Windermere at Lakeside near Newby Bridge. The hotel combines lake and fell views with a full spa, restaurants and bars, family and dog-friendly accommodation, boat experiences and unusually easy access to several major attractions immediately outside the grounds.Newly renovated rooms and Lakeside SuitesThe hotel has been steadily investing in its bedrooms, and its August 2026 update confirms that more than 70 per cent of rooms have now been renovated. Several bedrooms were refurbished earlier in 2026 and the newly renovated Lakeside Suites are now part of the current room offer. The refreshed suites combine contemporary interiors with the traditional character of the hotel and views across Lake Windermere.

Current Lake View Suites are among the property's most spacious hotel rooms, sleeping up to three and including an adjoining lounge, super-king or twin-bed configuration, bathrobes, Wi-Fi and uninterrupted lake views. The hotel notes that these suites are accessed via steps, so guests with mobility requirements should choose rooms carefully and confirm access before booking.Other room categories include Lake View Doubles, Lake View Terrace rooms, Classic rooms, Junior Suites, family accommodation and dog-friendly rooms. Lake View Terrace rooms are on the ground floor and include a private terrace overlooking the gardens and lake. Exact room layouts, outlooks and access vary significantly, so it is worth booking the category that matches your priorities rather than relying on a generic room description.Spa and leisureLakeside has a genuine hotel spa rather than simply a small leisure room. The spa uses Elemis products and includes a 17-metre heated indoor swimming pool looking towards the spa garden and Lake Windermere, a jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, landscaped spa garden and gym. Pool and core leisure-facility access are included for hotel residents, while treatments are charged separately.Current family swim times are 7am to 10am and 4pm to 6pm, with adults-only swimming from 10am to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. The hotel says pool closing is normally 7pm but can extend to 8pm during busy periods, so check the current timetable during your stay. Non-residents can also book treatments, spa days and selected leisure access. The landscaped spa garden adds an outdoor relaxation area with lake views, a fire pit and heated domes for colder weather. Elemis treatments include massages, facials, body treatments and other bookable spa experiences. Treatment availability is limited by appointment capacity, so pre-booking is recommended.Food and drinkThere are several distinct places to eat and drink. The Lakeview Restaurant is the more formal option, serving contemporary fine dining based around seasonal and locally sourced ingredients with views over Windermere. John Ruskin's Brasserie provides a more relaxed, family-friendly and dog-friendly setting with pub-style dishes and seasonal local produce. The hotel also serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, while The Muddy Boot Pub provides a smaller traditional pub-style space with oak panelling and a log fire. Lakeside introduced new menus across its food-and-drink operation in summer 2026, including refreshed Lakeview Restaurant, John Ruskin's Brasserie, lunch and afternoon-tea menus. Non-residents are welcome to dine, but booking is sensible for the restaurant, afternoon tea and busy weekends.Location and things to doThe position at the southern end of Windermere is a major advantage. Windermere Lake Cruises operate from Lakeside, while the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway terminus is immediately beside the hotel. Lakes Aquarium is across the car park, making the hotel particularly useful for car-free or family breaks that combine several attractions without repeated driving. The hotel also promotes water-based experiences from its private jetty, including private skippered yacht charters and other seasonal boating options. Availability, weather limits and prices vary, so book water activities separately and check operating conditions.Parking and transportLakeside Hotel currently provides ample free parking for guests. The hotel is around a 15-minute taxi journey from Grange-over-Sands railway station and is accessible from the M6 by road. Visitors can also build journeys around the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, connecting boat services and local transport, although timetables vary seasonally.Families, dogs and accessibilityThe hotel offers family rooms and family swim sessions, and some rooms are specifically promoted for dog-friendly stays. Garden Rooms are particularly useful for dogs because of their private outdoor space. Dogs are welcome in selected areas rather than throughout every dining space, so confirm the current policy when booking.Accessibility varies by room. The hotel has lift-served and level-access options, level access through to the spa and pool area, and current Booking.com information lists facilities for disabled guests. However, some lake-view categories including the Lake View Suites are accessed via steps. Guests who need step-free bedrooms, accessible bathrooms or specific pool access should discuss requirements with the hotel before paying for a room.Lakeside Hotel & Spa is at Lakeside, Newby Bridge, Cumbria, LA12 8AT. It works particularly well for visitors who want the lake itself to be part of the stay rather than simply something reached on a day trip. Room rates, restaurant menus, spa packages and seasonal experiences change frequently, so compare the exact package and room type before booking.
One of the strongest full-service resort-style hotels at the southern end of Windermere. The 2026 room investment makes it much more compelling than the old CG listing suggested, while the spa, restaurants, free parking, railway, aquarium and lake cruises give it unusually broad appeal. Choose the exact room category carefully because views and step-free access vary.
