About this car park
Allonby Main Car Park is one of the village's larger seafront parking areas, set between the B5300 and the dunes opposite Jack's Surf Bar. It is a useful choice for the beach, Allonby Bay, refreshments and walks along the Solway coast.
Cumberland Council specifically identifies the Main Car Park opposite Jack's Surf Bar in its Allonby car park repair programme. The parking area was included in the council's programme of regrading and tarmac patching designed to improve the surfaces used by visitors and residents.
Is Allonby Main Car Park free?
Allonby's council parking areas are free to use. Under Cumberland Council's current Allonby parking schedule, the maximum stay is 8 hours, with no return within 1 hour and no overnight occupancy. Parking is permitted in designated areas only.
The current order permits motor cars, motorcycles and heavy motor cars not exceeding 3.5 tonnes. This means a motorhome or campervan within the permitted vehicle class may use the parking area during the day, but sleeping or occupying a vehicle overnight is not permitted. Drivers should always check the signs at the car park because on-site restrictions take priority.
How many spaces are there?
Cumberland Council does not currently publish an official numerical capacity for this individual Allonby car park. The Main Car Park is visibly a substantial seafront parking area, but Cumbria Guru does not publish an estimated number of bays where a reliable operator or mapping source has not provided one.
Location and beach access
The car park sits on the seaward side of the B5300 opposite Jack's Surf Bar. A geotagged Geograph survey identifies the large grassy parking area between the road and dunes at approximately 54.769770, -3.431560, OS grid reference NY08004259.
From the parking area it is a short walk across the seafront to Allonby beach. The location also works well for the England Coast Path, dog walking, sunsets over the Solway Firth and exploring the village on foot.
Facilities
There is no confirmed council public toilet within this exact parking area. Allonby's council public toilets are farther north beside the children's play area at East Sea Banks, next to the Central Car Park. Food and drink are available nearby, including directly opposite the car park, but opening hours should be checked with individual businesses.
The Solway coast can be exposed to strong wind and changing weather. On busy summer days use another recognised Allonby parking area if the Main Car Park is full rather than parking on verges, blocking entrances or narrowing the B5300.
