Townend
Townend is a remarkably preserved 17th-century Lake District farmhouse in Troutbeck, home to the Browne family for around 400 years and now cared for by the National Trust.
Townend is a traditional Lake District farmhouse filled with Browne family furniture, objects and rare books. The current 2026 visiting pattern is Tuesday-Thursday: free-flow house 10am-3pm, last entry 2.30pm, followed by a pre-booked 3pm guided tour. The small car park is about 300 yards away; the house has steps, narrow corridors and uneven surfaces. Check the National Trust calendar before travel.
