About The Briery
The Briery is a small hotel, restaurant and bar on Stainburn Road in Workington. Following its 2026 relaunch, the venue is now trading as a live hospitality business with five guest rooms, an on-site British restaurant, bar, garden and free parking. The restaurant is open to residents and non-residents. Current official opening hours are 12pm to 11pm every day. Lunch is served Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 2.30pm, dinner Monday to Saturday from 5pm to 8.30pm, and Sunday lunch is served from 12pm to 6pm. The kitchen focuses on relaxed British dishes rather than formal fine dining. The venue explicitly caters for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices, while the bar serves ales and a wider range of drinks. Menus and specials can change, so diners should check the current menu and tell the team about allergies before ordering.

Accommodation is intentionally small-scale, with just five guest rooms. Current room categories include standard double rooms and larger deluxe doubles. Rooms have private bathrooms, a television, tea and coffee facilities, wardrobe space and complimentary Wi-Fi. Some rooms are on upper floors reached by stairs, so guests with mobility requirements should confirm the exact room before booking. The current direct-booking system states that room bookings open from Friday 14 August 2026 and require a minimum stay of two nights. Published launch rates begin at £85 per room per night Sunday to Thursday for the entry-level double room, with weekend rates higher. Rates vary by room type and date, so the live booking system should be used rather than treating these launch prices as permanent. Direct bookings are confirmed online with payment due on arrival. The current terms advertise free cancellation up to 48 hours before the stay, together with free Wi-Fi and parking. Check the live terms before confirming because cancellation and rate conditions can change. The Briery is positioned as a practical West Cumbria base rather than a central Lake District resort. Cockermouth is a short drive away, while Whinlatter Forest, Keswick, Buttermere, Loweswater, Maryport, Whitehaven and St Bees can all be reached on day trips. This makes it useful for visitors who want to combine the western fells with the Cumbrian coast. The current official telephone number is 01900 518648 and the hotel publishes stay@thebrieryhotel.com for enquiries. Reception is currently advertised as available daily from 7.30am to 10pm. The Briery has free private on-site parking for hotel guests. Visitors coming only for food should follow the current parking signs and avoid assuming hotel-resident conditions apply to every vehicle or event. Current status checked 12 August 2026: The Briery is open as a restaurant and bar following its relaunch. Hotel room bookings are being released from 14 August 2026 under the venue's new direct-booking arrangements.
Our local note
A useful small-scale West Cumbria base with food, drink and rooms under one roof. The restaurant is now open daily, while the five-room hotel is particularly handy for visitors exploring both the coast and western Lake District.
