About Solway Aviation Museum

Solway Aviation Museum is a volunteer-run aviation attraction at Carlisle Airport, east of the city. Its collection contains more than 20 aircraft and associated engines, equipment, photographs and displays exploring aviation history and the local airfield. Selected aircraft offer cockpit access, including the Avro Vulcan, Canberra and Sea Prince when conditions and staffing allow.

The museum operates seasonally and sits within a live-airfield environment, so visitors must follow the published route and safety instructions. Some cockpit visits involve ladders, confined spaces or limited mobility access. Dogs are permitted in outdoor areas under the museum's current rules but not inside the buildings. Check opening, admission, weather, access and cockpit availability before making a special journey.

Our local note

A substantial hands-on aviation attraction near Carlisle, especially rewarding for aircraft enthusiasts and families who allow enough time for the outdoor collection.
